ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Many of the 1,200 bus benches in Orange County are damaged or not in compliance, so the county is looking at its options to repair the benches or remove them completely.
The county has already contacted the company that currently maintains the benches. saying there are many places where they aren’t in compliance with state regulations.
Bus rider Nicole Scarborough uses the benches when she waits for a ride, but she doesn't sit on them.
“I usually don’t sit here,” she said. “I might put my stuff there, but I’ll stand right there because I’ve almost been hit by stuff too many times to take a risk.”
The county has not released an estimate for how much it will cost to fix, replace or remove its 1,200 bus benches, but it is working to find a company to do the work. Once that is done, the cost and a timeline for the project will be established.
