ORLANDO, Fla. — Drivers near downtown Orlando should expect lane closures this week as work continues on State Road 408 improvement projects.
The Central Florida Expressway Authority is working on two construction projects along SR 408 between Tampa Avenue and the Interstate 4 interchange.
The projects include adding another eastbound travel lane on SR 408 between Orange Blossom Trail and I-4 and reconstructing the SR 408/Tampa Avenue interchange.
CFX said the SR 408 ramps at Tampa Avenue, Orange Blossom Trail, Carter Street and Westmoreland Drive will also be realigned as part of the work.
The construction is expected to improve travel times, reduce congestion on nearby local roads and help traffic flow during events in the area, according to CFX.
Several project alerts are in effect this week, including lane closures on northbound Tampa Avenue, eastbound Carter Street, westbound Long Street and eastbound SR 408.
A Carter Street road closure is also scheduled to remain in place through July 27.
The work is scheduled daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
CFX said construction on the overall project began in early 2026. Local road improvements are expected to be completed by mid-2027, while full project completion is estimated for early 2029.
Channel 9 first reported on this project in December.
