An 18-year-old Apopka man died at the scene of a four-vehicle crash on S.R. 429 on Friday

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An 18-year-old Apopka man was killed and six other people were injured in a four-vehicle crash on S.R. 429 late Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 24, north of Plant Street.

Troopers said a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 60-year-old Orlando man struck the rear of a Hyundai Sonata. The impact sent the Hyundai into the path of a Chevrolet Camaro, which then struck the Hyundai from behind.

A Kia Sportage traveling in the outside lane struck debris from the initial crash, according to FHP.

The 18-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, died at the scene.

The Hyundai’s driver, an 18-year-old Apopka woman, and two other passengers — a 16-year-old Ocoee girl and a 14-year-old Apopka girl — were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The girls suffered serious injuries, while the driver had minor injuries, according to the report. Troopers described all three survivors’ injuries as non-life-threatening.

The Jeep’s driver and the Camaro’s two occupants — a 36-year-old Reunion man and a 37-year-old Orlando woman — also were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Kia’s driver, a 59-year-old Orlando man, was not injured and remained at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
