APOPKA, Fla. — Planning a holiday weekend trip to the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive? The drive will be closed to motorized vehicles Oct. 9–12 after heavy rainfall left its roads saturated.
The St. Johns River Water Management District announced that the roads will be temporarily closed on Wednesday. They explained that driving on wet roads could lead to costly damage and might also jeopardize the recent improvements to the roadways.
This is an important safety measure to protect everyone and ensure those upgrades stay in great shape. The closure runs Friday through Monday, including Columbus Day, when the drive would normally be open.
According to the district, thousands of vehicle trips usually happen during the holiday weekend. Reducing car traffic will help preserve the roads, especially since conditions are wet.
