Orlando leaders cut ribbon on new 55+ affordable housing community

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando leaders are celebrating the grand opening of a new affordable housing community for seniors.

On Friday, Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5 Commissioner Shan Rose were among those on hand for a ribbon-cutting at Fern Grove Apartments.

The 55+ community is located along W.D. Judge Drive west of John Young Parkway.

It features 138 units, a green energy design, and various services for its residents, including 24-hour support for urgent issues, as well as assistance with light housekeeping, grocery shopping, and laundry.

Officials said the apartments are specifically reserved for residents with incomes at or below 70% of the Area Median Income.

Other on-site amenities include a clubhouse, a fitness center, a game room, a butterfly garden and gazebos.

Officials said the project is part of the city’s ongoing housing expansion efforts.
