ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer weighed in Wednesday on what he would like to see happen to the site of the Pulse attack.
Dyer opened up on WMFE radio about his opinion on the future of Pulse.
“At some point, I think the city needs to gain control, purchase the Pulse site, and then make some determination, with a lot of input, on what a permanent memorial might look like,” Dyer said. “I think we need to determine some period of time that we leave it exactly as is, with some adequate fencing, because there will be people.”
The city of Orlando released this statement to Channel 9: “The city has had exploratory discussions with the owners of Pulse about the future of the site. Those (discussions) have included the city expressing our interest in acquiring the property. If the city determines it is in the best interest of the community to acquire the property, we will go through that public process to do so. At this time, there are no further details.”
County records show the site has a market value of $470,000.
It’s unclear how much the city is willing to spend.
Channel 9 emailed the Pulse spokesperson to see if the owner wanted to sell, but has not heard back.
