ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando police officer is under investigation after a man died shortly after leaving a party at the officer’s house.
Orlando police Officer John Tritt was questioned about the death after the man’s body was found houses down from the officer’s home in Audubon Park, an Orlando Police Department spokesperson said.
The man was found dead around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The Orlando Police Department responded to a “man down” call and found the man bleeding.
Firefighters said the man had injuries to his face, but Orlando police said he did not die of those injuries. Police said it appears the man fell in the roadway and sustained some injuries. Foul play is not suspected in the man's death, police said.
Eyewitness News found out a party was held at the officer’s home Sunday afternoon.
Several neighbors told Eyewitness News that they heard people screaming outside and then saw a man slumped near a car along a curb on Pelican Drive.
Residents of the neighborhood told Channel 9 there are large parties held at the officer’s home several times a year, and that cars were lined up on both sides of the street Sunday afternoon.
A resident, who asked not to be identified, said he saw as many as 75 guests come and go from the home with cases of booze, and that it’s a sight he sees at least a dozen times a year.
An internal investigation is underway into the party at Tritt’s home.
Police said there was a possible policy violation at the officer's home, but they would not say what policy may have been violated.
Tritt is on administrative leave, police said.
Police won’t release the name of the man who died.
Tritt has been with the police department since 1998 and is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.
