KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Angela Eady held her first meeting as mayor Tuesday, days after the governor suspended Jackie Espinosa

Kissimmee has a new mayor, and her first message to the city was to move forward together.

Angela Eady led her first City Commission meeting Tuesday night. She took over Oct. 30, after Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Mayor Jackie Espinosa following Espinosa’s arrest. Espinosa is accused of using her position to help businesses connected to her and her family get $50,000 in COVID-19 relief money.

“Kissimmee is moving forward, we are not looking in the rearview mirror. Instead, we are looking in the windshield,” Eady said.

Eady’s old seat on the commission, Seat 2, is empty. City Manager Mike Steigerwald says the city is proposing to take applications the week of Nov. 9. There’s no deadline to fill it, but if the commission doesn’t pick someone, the city has to hold a special election.

“At some point we have got to stop and come together. Not get together but come together,” Eady said.

Eady will serve as mayor until Espinosa’s suspension is lifted or the term ends in 2028.
