OVIEDO, Fla. — Oviedo Medical Center is expanding its cardiovascular services with the addition of one of the most advanced CT scanners in the Greater Orlando area, hospital officials announced.
The new imaging system is capable of producing up to 512-slice cardiac images and can capture the entire heart in a single heartbeat, allowing physicians to evaluate cardiovascular conditions with greater speed and accuracy.
Hospital leaders said the technology is expected to enhance the diagnosis of heart disease while improving the overall patient experience.
“This is a game-changer for cardiovascular care in our community,” Cameron Howard, CEO of Oviedo Medical Center, said in a statement. “We’re bringing some of the most sophisticated cardiac imaging technology available right here to Oviedo. With the ability to capture the entire heart in a single heartbeat, this investment reflects our commitment to making advanced heart care more accessible and giving patients exceptional diagnostic capabilities close to home.”
The scanner is particularly beneficial for patients undergoing coronary CT angiography, a noninvasive imaging test that provides detailed views of the coronary arteries.
Physicians use the exam to identify plaque buildup, narrowing of the arteries and potential blockages that can contribute to heart disease.
The system also incorporates artificial intelligence-assisted imaging, advanced motion-correction technology and automated workflows designed to improve image quality and reduce scan times.
According to hospital officials, those features can be especially valuable for patients with elevated heart rates, irregular heart rhythms or other conditions that may make traditional cardiac imaging more challenging.
Beyond cardiovascular imaging, the scanner can be used for a variety of diagnostic examinations across multiple specialties, broadening the hospital’s imaging capabilities.
The addition of the new scanner is part of Oviedo Medical Center’s continued investment in cardiovascular services. As a member of the HCA Florida Cardiovascular Network, the hospital provides access to heart, lung and vascular care for patients throughout Central Florida.
Hospital leaders said the technology underscores their goal of bringing advanced medical care closer to home while improving access to specialized cardiovascular services for residents of Oviedo and surrounding communities.
