Oviedo Police Department launches new Public Safety Cadets program

OVIEDO, Fla. — The Oviedo Police Department has launched a new youth initiative aimed at introducing young people to careers in law enforcement and public safety.

The Oviedo Police Public Safety Cadets program is designed for young individuals interested in serving their community while learning about various aspects of policing and public safety.

According to the department, cadets will receive hands-on training, classroom instruction and mentorship from experienced police officers. Participants will learn about criminal justice, patrol procedures, traffic control, first aid and public service.

The program also includes community engagement opportunities and scenario-based training designed to give cadets real-world exposure to police work.

Police officials said the initiative will focus on developing leadership skills, discipline, physical fitness and a strong sense of responsibility.

The department hopes the program will prepare participants for future careers in law enforcement while encouraging teamwork, integrity and respect for the communities they serve.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Must be between 14 and 20 years old.
  • Education: Must be currently enrolled in school.
  • Commitment: Must demonstrate a strong desire to serve within the community.

Application Process

Interested candidates must complete the formal application process, which includes:

  • Submission of a completed application packet.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Medical clearance to participate in program activities.
  • Pay $20 member ship Fee
