PALM BAY, Fla. — The Palm Bay City Council is considering nearly tripling stormwater fees for property owners in the city.

The average homeowner’s stormwater fee will jump from $53.64 to $177.13 annually under the proposal.

City leaders say they need to raise the fees to repair, and even replace, damaged stormwater pipes.

The size of a person’s property would play a part in determining the amount to be paid.

The city mailed out letters to affected property owners on June 16 explaining the proposed increase.

The City council will discuss the stormwater fee increase during a meeting at 7 p.m. Friday.

The city has also set up a website with information about the stormwater fee.
