ORLANDO, Fla. — A patient is speaking out about the concerns over faulty mammograms at an Orlando clinic.
About 5,000 Boston Diagnostic Imaging patients are being notified that their tests could be compromised.
Federal health investigators stripped the facility of its accreditation last month.
On Thursday, one patient told Channel 9's Jeff Deal she's worried about the test results.
Carole Fedor said she got a mammogram at the clinic about two years ago and was warned about a possible problem.
She came back for a second test, which showed there was no problem, but now she wonders if the second test was accurate.
Fedor is especially worried since cancer has struck often in her family.
"Then they said everything was OK, but it's always been at the back of my mind,” Fedor said.
The worry had subsided until she saw Channel 9’s report about a problem with mammograms from the same location.
Orlando Health issued letters and warned patients that the mammograms may not be reliable.
"Once we found out the level of concern at that facility, we stopped providing mammograms,” said Kena Lewis, of Orlando Health.
Federal investigators found what they called deficiencies in the image quality.
Notices are going out to patients who received mammograms from May 2013 through July 2015 that they may have to be re-examined.
It’s a process that has Fedor and her family fearing that second test may not have been accurate.
"Maybe all this time there is something wrong and I don't know it. Could it be getting worse?,” she said.
She is hoping to get another test as soon as possible.
Orlando Health just took over the clinic in December and will cover the cost for patients to get new mammograms.
Officials are recommending patients call their doctor or the number on the letter.
