Person of interest sought after father fatally shot in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Kissimmee police are searching for a person of interest in a fatal shooting.

Police responded to Hill Street and Henrietta Avenue at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, and found Edward Murphy, 25, dead in his car from multiple gunshot wounds.

The passenger, who had driven from the scene of the shooting to Hill Street, had a graze wound to the chest.

He was not identified.

The victim's family put up a "rest in peace" poster on Benita Street near McLaren Circle, close to where the father of two was shot.

Murphy’s aunt said his son and daughter are under the age of 3.

“They know, but they’re little. They don’t understand right now,” said Patricia Ellison.

Detectives said they’re looking for Dontavis Jackson, 26, as a person of interest in the case.

Jackson has multiple warrants for unrelated cases and police said they need to see him for questioning.

Murphy’s family told Channel 9 the shooter may have mistaken Murphy and his passenger for someone else.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
