EDGEWATER, Fla. — A man who was fatally struck by a train Thursday evening has been identified, the Edgewater Police Department said.
Scott Johnson, of Edgewater, was hit shortly after 10:30 p.m. north of West Indian River Boulevard and Hibiscus Drive, Edgewater police Officer Charles Geiger said.
It’s unknown why Johnson was walking on the tracks, Geiger said, but there aren't any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Officers said some of the train’s couplings, which connect the train cars to one another, were damaged as the conductor tried to brake for Johnson.
The incident remains under investigation.
No other details were given.
