LAKE MARY, Fla. — Police said a student at Lake Mary Preparatory School was injured when an explosive device detonated on campus early Tuesday evening.
Dispatchers received calls reporting some type of explosion at the school on Rantoul Lane shortly before 5 p.m.
"We had a report of an injured young man, a 15-year-old, who was injured when he pulled on a device and that device went off in his hand," Zach Hudson with the Lake Mary Police Department said.
The device, which police called a "blasting cap," was in the student's backpack and detonated when he reached in to get a textbook, according to investigators.
