PALM BAY, Fla. — Police are continuing to investigate a suspicious brush fire that burned 160 acres in Palm Bay’s Compound area as firefighters also responded Wednesday to another fire nearby.
Palm Bay Fire Rescue said the original 160-acre fire from Tuesday night is now fully contained, with crews remaining on scene for mop-up operations. Officials said no homes or property were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities said the earlier fire is considered suspicious because multiple fires were found burning independently of one another.
The Florida Forest Service and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office STAR helicopter helped crews contain that fire.
A second brush fire broke out Wednesday near Kentucky Drive and J.A. Bombardier Boulevard in the Compound area, according to Palm Bay Fire Rescue.
Assistant Fire Chief John Ringleb said that fire had burned about 20 acres and was not threatening homes.
Officials have not said whether the second fire is connected to the earlier suspicious fire.
The cause of both incidents remains under investigation.
Officials continue urging residents to burn responsibly and report suspicious activity.
