, Fla. — A hold at Champion Elementary School in Daytona Beach has been lifted after law enforcement activity near the campus Wednesday morning, according to Volusia County Schools.
Eyewitness News first alerted viewers about the hold in the WFTV app just before 10 a.m.
The hold was not related to the school, according to a Volusia County Schools spokesperson.
While at the scene, Channel 9 crews saw ICE agents, Daytona Beach police and Volusia County sheriff’s deputies around the campus and in the surrounding area.
Law enforcement sources told Channel 9 that officers were working nearby and that the investigation moved toward the campus when people they were looking for ran toward the school.
A photo taken by Channel 9 showed a person in handcuffs being placed in the back of a van.
School was not part of investigation
A Volusia County Schools spokesperson confirmed the elementary school was not part of the investigation.
The school was placed on hold until the situation was resolved, the spokesperson said.
A hold means students and staff remain inside classrooms or buildings while instruction or other activities may continue, depending on the situation.
One parent told Channel 9 that seeing law enforcement around the school made her uneasy.
“Makes you uneasy, makes you very nervous,” parent Kristin Antignani said. “I’m from New York with the shootings and the bombings and you’re gonna make me cry. It makes you nervous. Being in Florida has been a very good experience. It changed our lives, but this makes me a little uneasy.”

Channel 9 has reached out to ICE to ask whether agents were conducting an operation in Daytona Beach.
No additional details about the law enforcement activity have been released.
