ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are searching for a man who they said sexually battered a child outside an apartment complex in broad daylight.
The incident happened about noon Tuesday at the Ashley Court apartments on Lake Orlando Parkway, police said.
According to investigators, the man lured a 6-year-old girl by asking her about a bicycle. He then picked her up and pulled down her pants, police said.
Channel 9 spoke with a neighbor who said he heard the girl scream.
"I heard a loud scream and I said, 'No, that doesn't sound good,'" said neighbor Angel Rolon.
Rolon said after he heard the girl scream, he spotted a man running past his apartment.
"I saw the person run by," he said. "By the time I got to the front door, he was already crossing the other side of the complex going toward the golf course."
Rolon said he even tried to go after the man in his car, but he was unable to find him.
Dozens of CrimeLine fliers have gone up around the complex, but with no sketch and a vague description, authorities don’t have many leads.
The attacker is described as a black man, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, who was wearing a red hat and white T-shirt. The victim told police she had never seen the man before.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Orlando police.
