A 46-year-old man with five previous convictions for driving under the influence was arrested again early Monday for the same offense, the Melbourne Police Department said.
A Melbourne police officer saw Darryl Snyder run a stop sign shortly before 12:30 a.m. at McClendon Street and Avocado Avenue, Melbourne police Lt. Timothy Turner said.
When the officer tried to pull over Snyder, he refused to stop his SUV and a slow chase ensued, ending near his home on Highland Avenue, Turner said.
“Snyder showed signs of impairment during this encounter and refused to perform any field sobriety tests and the breath test,” Turner said. “A warrant was authored and served on Snyder to draw blood for the purposes of determining his blood-alcohol content.”
Investigators said Snyder had a revoked license with five previous DUI convictions and an additional arrest in which the DUI charge was reduced to reckless driving.
Snyder was out on inmate release after serving a prison sentence for felony DUI, police said.
He was booked into the Brevard County Jail on charges of fleeing/attempt to elude, driving with a suspended license, refusal to submit, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
The blood sample was sent to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement laboratory for testing.
