Police: One step closer to solving retired officer's 2003 death

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Investigators in Winter Park said they are one step closer to solving a nearly decade-old homicide case involving a retired law enforcement officer.

Cheryn McGillicuddy was slain in November 2003, after a man forced the 39-year-old into her apartment and shot her two times before taking off with her wallet and jewelry.

The last major development in the case was in November 2010, when physical evidence was uncovered from a Pine Hills home.

Now, investigators believe a person involved in her death lives in Chipley, Florida.

"What we're trying to do is get the public's assistance with any information he may have told a friend or anything they may have observed," said Detective Jeff Harris of the Winter Park Police Department.

McGillicuddy was able to give police a description of her attacker moments before she died.

Police recently mailed out flyers to Chipley residents, urging anyone with information to come forward.

There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
