Police still searching for missing New Smyrna Beach family

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla.,None — Investigators with New Smyrna Beach Police are working to find of a family of four who have been missing since July.

Brandon Hubbs talked to WFTV reporter Blaine Tolison over the phone Friday. He said he hasn't spoken to his mother, Karen Burger, his sister, Christina, his sister's boyfriend, Allen Hilgefort or his 3-year-old nephew for months.

Hubbs lives in San Francisco but is asking for the public to help find his family. New Smyrna Beach police said all four are missing and possibly in trouble.

"It's just like an emptiness inside and it's… I can't really explain it and I mean to have, like, not only your mom, but your sister and your nephew all disappearing and no trace," Hubbs said.

Police said the family was last seen at the All-Suites Motel in Edgewater. Hubbs said his mother called him just before they vanished.

"She was begging me to come out there that she was really scared about something that was going on," Hubbs said. "I've always been the one to stick up for her and like protect her and I wasn't there."

Police do not have any suspects at this time. They believe drugs may have somehow played a role. Hubbs said he agrees; but he said that doesn't change how he feels.

"They're good people, they don't deserve this," Hubbs said.

Police said they don't know if any of the missing family members are victims of foul play.
