MELBOURNE, Fla. — A train fatally struck a pedestrian early Friday, the Melbourne Police Department said.
The incident happened shortly after 6:45 a.m. on East New Melbourne Avenue west of Depot Drive, Melbourne police Lt. Steven Sadoff said.
The train was traveling northbound when it hit the pedestrian, Sadoff said.

The person who died wasn't publicly identified.
The death remains under investigation.
