SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Winter Springs police are looking for a group of juveniles who they said raped a female student Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the incident happened in a wooded area near Winter Springs High School off of State Road 434 and Tuskawilla Road between 3-5 p.m.
Police said the girl told them she knows two of those involved and that it’s unclear if the other alleged attackers also attend school with the victim.
Police said five to seven boys were involved in the sexual battery and they are working to identify them.
Police are still trying to track down the group.
News of the alleged sexual battery caught a lot of nearby residents off-guard.
“I feel like it’s generally safe because I have my dog with me and I wouldn’t expect anything like that,” said Winter Springs resident Jessie Lee.
“That's awful and super scary. This is like the best time to run when there's nobody out and you can enjoy yourself and it's scary that you can't go out for a run without worrying about being attacked,” said resident Kim McCoy.
Investigators are looking for five to seven boys.
The victim said they attacked her just before sundown.
“I saw your news van and I was like, 'Oh no! I hope that's not what I think it is.' And it is. I'm going to go home and get on the treadmill,” McCoy said.
The victim has been released from the hospital and is physically OK.
There have been no arrests in the case.
