Florida fast-tracks I-4 express lanes and new truck parking facilities

Construction on these express lanes is scheduled to begin ten years earlier than expected

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Florida is accelerating new congestion-relief projects along the I-4 corridor, including 17 miles of express lanes in Hillsborough County and a 100-space truck parking facility in Polk County.

The new I-4 express lanes will run between I-75 and County Line Road, with construction expected to begin in 2028 — about a decade ahead of schedule, according to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office.

State officials also announced work has begun on an Advanced Air Mobility vertiport at FDOT’s SunTrax facility, part of a planned statewide network supporting future air-taxi technology.
