ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Power lines were taken down and a woman suffered minor injuries when a large tree fell on her car as she drove through Windermere Sunday morning.
“For her to come out with just a little scrape, what else can you say?” said the victim’s husband Mauricio Ocampo.
Diana Senz left her Winter Garden home to go to the gym when a tree fell on top of her moving Kia Forte Sedan on 6th Avenue in Windermere around 9:00 a.m. Sunday.
“She was just driving, came to a sudden stop with a tree on top of her. She didn’t even get to hit the brakes, she was stopped by the tree,” Ocampo said.
Senz suffered minor injuries and did not need to be taken to a hospital, officials said.
WFTV asked a certified arborist what could have caused the tree to randomly come crashing down.
“You can have a tree that has full crown of leaves on it and look healthy, but it can have structural defects. In this case there may have been structural defects involved,” said Eric Engstrom, of Green Burst Tree and Landscape.
Several power lines were taken down when the tree fell. The incident resulted in a power outage where roughly 1,000 customers were without power. Power was restored Sunday afternoon.
