VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Raw: Port Orange fatal shooting
"How do you account for a guy that has enough rage, a 63-year-old man, enough rage in him to kill somebody outright,?" Bailey II said.
Officials with the State Attorney's Office said they already asked that Gelles be held on a no-bond status. A judge granted Gelles a $100,000 bond for his second-degree murder charge.
Court officials say Gelles' past factored into the decision. Gelles was sentenced to one year of probation in 2009 for allegedly pulling a gun on a family.
Prosecutors said Gelles is a threat to the community, and there is no way to prevent him from harming someone else.
Bailey's family members said they are concerned for their safety, too.
"Even though he's 25 miles away, he's way too close to us, as far as we're concerned," Bailey II said.
Prosecutors will be back in front of a judge Wednesday, asking for Gelles to be returned to jail.
