VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Salome Jackson, or better known a Betty Idol on Love & Hip-Hop and Cartel Crew was arrested following an 11-month investigation into an alleged real estate fraud scheme in Volusia County.
Investigators say victims wired approximately $198,000 to purchase a vacant parcel of land in Orange City after it was legitimately listed through a local real estate office. Detectives say the property was fraudulently listed for sale by suspects posing as the actual owners.
According to investigators, fake identification was provided to the real estate office, which believed it was communicating with the legitimate property owners. The victims ultimately wired their money to a fraudulent business account.
Detectives say the money was then moved through multiple shell businesses and bank accounts, primarily in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Investigators determined that many of the account holders were themselves victims of identity theft.
Authorities obtained warrants for approximately 14 bank accounts and traced debit card activity, purchases, and large cash withdrawals across New York and Miami.
Investigators say they were able to link approximately $179,000 of the stolen funds to Salomes Jackson of New York City, using bank records, receipts, flight records, surveillance video, and ATM footage.
