Registered sex offender to be sentenced after Flagler County teen kidnapped and tortured

Sentencing is scheduled Wednesday for Darnell Hairston in teen torture case.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Darnell Hairston, a registered sex offender, is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday for his role in the kidnapping and torture of a Flagler County teenager.

Hairston pleaded no contest last month to charges of armed kidnapping, child abuse and battery.

Deputies arrested Hairston on New Year’s Eve after pulling his vehicle over when a bystander spotted him with a boy reported missing out of Saint Johns County.

During the stop, deputies rescued the victim and apprehended Hairston as he attempted to run away.

According to investigators, Hairston and 15-year-old Junior Bishop lured the victim to a campsite, where they tortured the teenager for days.

When deputies initially detained Hairston during the traffic stop, Bishop got behind the wheel of the vehicle and drove away.

Deputies eventually forced the vehicle to stop and took the teenager into custody.

Bishop is being charged as an adult with kidnapping and battery.
