Thieves hit Rockledge car dealership Sunday night

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A.A. Snowbird Auto Sales and Service Dealership was left to pick up the pieces after thieves broke into more than a dozen cars that were sitting on the lot.

The thieves broke into the dealership on U.S.1 Sunday night. A total of 15 cars were targeted, and investigators said the thieves took their time taking as much as they could from the cars.

"I started noticing broken glass," owner John Kelley said.

Kelley said at first he thought it was just a few cars. However, Rockledge police investigators said the thieves stole stereos by smashing through the back windows of 15 cars.
They also opened the car hoods to steal batteries and went underneath the vehicles to steal the catalytic converters.

"They came with wrenches and actually unscrewed catalytic converters, unscrewed bolts on the batteries, rather than the normal cut-and-run," Kelley said.

The dealership has security cameras at the front office that point toward the cars in the parking lot, but most of the cars broken into were far away from the office and out of view of the cameras.

The owners said they hope police will find out who is responsible, but they are also taking action to prevent another robbery from happening again.

"There will be new cameras. Believe me, there will be cameras everywhere," Kelley said.

Although police did get fingerprints, it may be difficult to find out who the thieves were since different people likely touched the cars in the past.

Police also plan to look at the video just in case the suspects walking or drove past the security cameras.
