Sanford store stands behind selling Confederate flag items

SANFORD, Fla. — As the debate over the Confederate flag continues nationwide, a Sanford store said it has no plans to get rid of merchandise with the flag.

The Dixie Heritage store at Seminole Towne Center sells plenty of items that show the Confederate flag, including T-shirts and bathing suits.

The store's manager said items with the Confederate flag are big sellers, despite some residents being against the idea.

"I think it's long overdue. I think it's there, it's time. We've moved on, and we need to have everything reflective of that," Longwood resident Karen Sweat said.

The Dixie Heritage manager didn't want to do an interview with Eyewitness News, but said the flag is a symbol of hertiage and history.

"The stampede to try to remove everything Confederate on the planet is very much of a knee-jerk reaction that doesn't go anywhere near solving the issue we have at hand," said John Adams, with the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Dixie Hertiage's manager said she has received no complaints about the Confederate flag at the store, and it will continue to sell.
