Sanford woman says neighborhood's new holiday parking policy unfair to Jewish residents

SANFORD, Fla. — A Sanford woman said she’s being treated unfairly by her Homeowner’s Association after she inquired about the parking situation in the neighborhood.

Marci Gottfried and her family moved into The Preserve at Eagle Lake almost a year ago.

Her family has three cars and at first it wasn’t a problem, but a few months back the HOE came up with stricter ruled about parking.

Residents are not allowed to park on the grass, sidewalks or streets.

Now her family, neighbors and guests are constantly fighting for the limited spaces around the neighborhood.

The lot closest to her townhome has just a few spaces.

“If you want to walk three streets away, there are four spots at the end of the street,” Gottfried said.

The HOA told residents on holidays they’ll relax a little and cars can park on one side of the street without being towed.

But Gottfried said the policy doesn’t include any Jewish holidays.

She wrote the HOA a letter.

“We asked for the major Jewish holidays, like Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah and Passover,” Gottfried said.

Five months later, she still hasn’t gotten a response.

Channel 9 tried to ask the HOW board members about the situation, but they weren’t home.

Gottfried feels like she’s not being treated fairly and wants to see the parking holiday changed.

“We’re Jewish. I’m sure there are other people in the neighborhood that celebrate other holidays,” Gottfried said.

The management company of the neighborhood has not responded to Channel 9’s request for an interview.
