SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — Attorneys for a teenager charged in a Satellite Beach crowbar assault were able to get their client bond. Jessica Umberger is one of three suspects charged with the attempted murder of Daniel Vukovich, 17. Umberger was granted $50,000 bond with conditions, including no access to social media, random drug testing and house arrest. She’s been in jail without bond since her February arrest in connection to the crowbar assault against Vukovich.

Vukovich’s mother said she felt safer with the 18-year-old behind bars. “Every morning I relive what happened and I don’t know how I can (stop) knowing she’s not in jail,” said Kerry Henderson. Henderson described how she heard a loud bang outside her Satellite Beach home on the morning of Feb. 19. She said she saw massive amounts of blood when she walked outside. Investigators said Vukovich was physically assaulted by Umberger’s boyfriend, 17-year-old Dylan Thomas. They said Umberger and their co-defendant, Rebecca Gotay, 18, knew the assault would happen, as did others. “They said they were going to rob him, beat him with a crowbar and kill him,” said witness Ryan Murphy. Investigators said it happened because Thomas believed Vukovich stole marijuana from him. The victim’s mother said he still has an extensive recovery ahead and doesn’t remember the attack. Gotay is already out on bond. Thomas is being held in lieu of a $1.1 million bond.
