School bus carrying 13 children avoids injury after being rear-ended by truck

The bus transported 13 teenagers and several adults from various towns across Florida and Georgia

UNION COUNTY, Fla. — A truck rear-ended a stopped school bus at a Union County intersection Saturday morning, but no injuries were reported, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 6:39 a.m. at S.R 100 and S.R. 121. Troopers said the truck was heading east on S.R. 100 when its driver failed to notice that the bus had stopped ahead at the traffic-controlled intersection.

The truck’s driver, a 19-year-old Newberry man, and his passenger, a 15-year-old Gainesville girl, were wearing seat belts. Both declined transportation to a hospital, FHP said.

The bus was driven by a 60-year-old Live Oak woman and carried 13 children ages 14 to 17, along with adult passengers. The children were from Live Oak, Wellborn, Jasper and McAlpin. The adult passengers were from Live Oak and Valdosta, Georgia.

Everyone aboard the bus also declined hospital transportation, troopers said.
