MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. — The search continues more than 18 hours after a man disappeared while bodyboarding off Melbourne Beach, according to officials.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said the man, who is in his 50s, went into the water around 9:30 a.m. Sunday and disappeared beneath the surface while riding a bodyboard.
Multiple agencies joined the search Sunday, including the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Brevard Fire Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Search planes and boats were used to scan the waters off Melbourne Beach, but officials had not located the man as of Sunday night.
Officials said the area was under a high risk for rip currents Sunday, with similar conditions expected Monday.
