See signs for ‘legal weed' in Flagler County? Deputies say don't fall for them

Signs in Clermont are advertising legal weed, but state officials say it's a scam.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Signs are popping up in Palm Coast that advertise "legal weed," Flagler County deputies said.

The person who answers the call tells people they can legally purchase medical marijuana if they come in and pay for a $199 office visit, deputies said.

The caller asks for credit card and driver’s license information, deputies said. However, a driver’s license isn’t required to purchase medical marijuana.

“Don’t be taken in with the hope of getting medical marijuana.  The only thing you will get is the loss of your money; this is truly “smoke and mirrors,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a news release.

Eyewitness News reported earlier this month that the same type of signs were placed around Lake County.
