Seminole County to expand Paw Park Village

SANFORD, Fla. — Seminole County moved forward with its plans to expand a dog park. Commissioners decided to fix up Paw Park Village and the surrounding area of US 17/92 near Lake Monroe. Paw Park is central Florida's first dog park.

The project will cost $70,000.

The money will be used to make repairs to the fencing that keeps dogs inside and safe. The money will also be used for landscaping, irrigation systems and lighting and to fix the sidewalks.

The dog park has been there for more than a decade, and the wear and tear from pets is starting to show.

Local business owners said love the idea of giving the park a needed makeover.

"We just would like to develop the area a little bit better, get some new signage down here. The park opened up in 2001, so it's seen a lot of wear. It was central Florida’s very first dog park," said business owner Mike Kinipfer.

The county was able to use redevelopment funds that were meant to improve the US 17/92 corridor.
