SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Eyewitness News got a glimpse Monday of what the future of the old Flea World site will look like in Seminole County.

The new area will have retail development along 17-92, as well as homes and townhomes on the 118-acre site.

“I guess I have mixed thoughts about the whole thing,” said neighbor Betty Newton.

The new site will be called Regan Center.

Newton told Channel 9's Cuthbert Langley that she's excited about the new shops, but said she is worried about what the development may mean for her quiet street.

“I'm concerned about the congestion. (I’m concerned) that it's going to bring with traffic, more people and possibly crime,” Newton said.

Flew World closed nearly two years ago.

Seminole County commissioners was supposed to vote Tuesday on giving money to continue prepping the site for construction. They'll vote on either $740,000, or as much as $1.3 million to finish both the demolition and begin setting the site up for utility connections. However, commissioners delayed the decision until they can further discuss the funding model. A spokesperson told Eyewitness News that there were a lot of talks about the utilities. They were either going to give $740K in grant money or close to $1.3 million, which would have included prepping the site for utilities.

“Growth is good, but sometimes if you grow too fast, there's problems, too,” said Newton.
