Seminole County opens sandbag operations Monday due to heavy rain

Residents can pick up pre-filled bags or use self-service locations in Geneva and Sanford

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County is opening sandbag operations Monday following recent heavy rainfall and the potential for additional rain in the coming days.

The county will have 3,000 pre-filled sandbags available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Empty bags and dirt will also be available for residents who want to fill their own.

The sites are unstaffed and self-service. Residents filling bags should bring their own shovel and gloves and be prepared to load the bags themselves. Officials said filled sandbags can weigh about 30 pounds.

Sandbags are available at:

  • Old Geneva Volunteer Fire Station, 217 2nd St., Geneva
  • Boombah Sports Complex Overflow Lot, 3325 Cameron Ave., Sanford

Both locations will be open from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, and from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.
