WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — A former Winter Springs High School football coach was allegedly headbutted by a player’s parent inside a locker room, prompting calls for change.

The coach’s son was suspended after stepping in to help his father during the altercation, drawing criticism from community members while school board members defended the handling of the incident.

Law enforcement was contacted immediately following the incident and school administration conducted an investigation into the matter.

The coaches declined to press charges. Authorities later delivered a trespass notice directly to the parents’ home.

Critics of the disciplinary action argued that suspending the coach’s son for attempting to protect his father was unjust.

School board members defended the administration’s handling of the altercation. Board members also noted that the parent involved had previously been permitted access to the locker room area.
