Sheriff investigates gunfire near early morning gathering in Leesburg

LEESBURG, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after shots were fired near a gathering early Saturday morning in Leesburg.

Deputies responded around 1:53 a.m. Aug. 15 to a home in the Indian Trails area following reports of a verbal dispute and gunfire, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived, they learned a gathering was taking place at the residence.

Investigators located numerous spent shell casings in the street near the home. Deputies also found several bullet holes in the window and roof of an unoccupied vehicle parked a short distance away, the sheriff’s office said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit and Drone Unit responded to help search the area for possible suspects, but no suspects were located.

No injuries have been reported.

The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau was notified, and Crime Scene Investigations personnel responded to process the scene and assist with the investigation.
