ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Some St. Cloud Utility customers said they are frustrated after seeing their water bills rise over the past few months.
Customers believe their bills are increasing because of new meters installed by the company around the same time they started seeing an increase in their bills.
"It's just being charged so much for no reason," customer Robert Marshall said.
Marshall said he normally pays around $26 a month, but his June bill was over $60.
"There was one person living in this household and they are saying that I used 15,000 gallons," Marshall said.
Residents said their bills have nearly quadrupled in the last two months.
"One of my neighbors said that his water bill went up over a couple hundred dollars and that concerns me," resident Mike Patrick said.
Channel 9 reaches out to the city about the allegations.
"City of St. Cloud is incorporating automated metering infrastructure (AMI) technology throughout its St. Cloud Utilities service area. These new AMI meters are 100 percent (+/- 1.5 percent) accurate. Customer concerns may be directed to our SCU Customer Service Personal," the city said in a statement.
Marshall said the city needs to check the sensors because something isn't right.
St. Cloud Utilities said that each customer who came to them with concerns would have their account reviewed individually by their personnel.
