Teen electrocuted while retrieving ball at FP&L substation

MIAMI — A teenager is dead after jumping a fence at a Florida Power & Light substation to fetch a ball while playing basketball at a Miami park.

Officials said the body of 17-year-old Jesus Meneses was recovered Monday evening.  Reports say electric current was still running through the teen's body when officials arrived, so they had to wait until power to the grid was shut down before reaching him.

The teen was a senior at Coral Gables High School.

Officials from Florida Power & Light said the company is working with investigators to determine what happened.
