SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A teen was found unconscious on a Seminole County road Wednesday near Sanford, officials said.
Investigators said Nigel Haynes left his home early Wednesday to walk to a bus stop.
Authorities said Haynes, 15, was found unconscious in the intersection of 5th Street and West Airport at about 6 a.m.
Haynes was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in serious condition. He was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he was upgraded to good condition Thursday.
Authorities said Haynes had an injury over his left eye.
However, a witness said he believes the boy was hit by a car.
"I could clearly see it was a young man. He was hit by a car," said witness William Johnson. "Just a young man lying in the middle of the road."
Johnson said Haynes was awake and alert before first responders pulled up.
"When he first started to talk, he was very upset, and he said, 'Just hurry up.' So, basically he was just upset, but he had a hard time talking," Johnson said.
When first responders arrived, Haynes was unconscious.
"His shoe was here, about 20 feet from where his body is. His notepad with papers all over the road, and a sock was over about five feet from him," Johnsons said."Clearly leaving him in the middle of the road is going to make it worse, and I don't care who you are as a driver, even a 16-year-old with a fresh license, you know when you strike something."
