Teenage suspects in alleged Orange County crime spree identified

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 24-hour crime spree has come to an end in Orange County.

There was a shooting at a McDonald's late Tuesday night, which led to the arrest of a group of teens accused in a string of crimes, said authorities.

Deputies said the group of teens followed a woman home from a bank, and then robbed her in her driveway.

Authorities said along with several robberies, the group is accused of carjacking.

According to investigators, a 15-year-old boy was inside a McDonald's on Landstar Boulevard eating when he saw the three teens who had robbed him earlier drive up. The victim confronted the group of teens, one of whom 14-year-old, when one of them pointed a gun at him, authorities said.

The victim was able to wrestle the gun away after a shot was fired and called 911, deputies said.

“He was able to disarm the person. In the process of doing that, a shot was fired. Luckily, nobody was hit by that,” said Lt. Paul Hopkins of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

After the group fled the scene, deputies were able to track them down about a half-mile down the road. Investigators said the group used their vehicle as a weapon toward deputies.

"Once he got the gun, the three bad guys got back in their SUV and fled. At one point, they went down a cul-de-sac and rammed our deputy," said Hopkins said.

Investigators said the group was part of a 24-hour crime spree that involved a carjacking, several armed robberies, and attempted murder.

The victim was not injured.

Deputies said the suspects are Manuel Villalona, 17, Alexander Ortega, 16, and Jancarlos Torres 14.

Deputies have no released photos of the suspects because the teens are suspects in several other robberies and authorities want witnesses to identify them before the photos are made public.

The suspects were expected to go before a judge Wednesday but they were sent back to the juvenile assessment center so more charges could be brought against them.
