OCOEE, Fla. — A teenager is recovering after being shot outside Ocoee High School following a Friday night football game, according to police.
The shooting happened after the Ocoee-Jones High School football game ended Friday night.
Ocoee police said the shooting stemmed from a confrontation involving several teenagers outside the stadium. The juvenile who was shot was not affiliated with either school playing in the game, according to officials.
Police said the victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Channel 9 was at the game when the shooting happened. Photojournalist Josh Salazar was filming football highlights when he heard several gunshots.
“I heard five to six gunshots,” Salazar said.
Salazar then captured exclusive video showing people rushing to help the teenager who had been shot.
“There was a quick moment, it seemed like he was in shock, then he realized what was going on,” Salazar said. “Then he started screaming in pain, screaming real loud, in agony really.”
Bishop Kelvin Cobaris was also at the game with his family and said the shooting left him concerned.
“My children could’ve been caught in that crossfire,” said Cobaris. “My daughter was walking around on the side to see friends. My son and I were walking him away from the restroom. We could’ve been caught in the middle of that and been hurt just by being bystanders and having nothing to do with it.”
No arrests have been made, and police are still looking for the person responsible.
“It’s just sad to see that we can’t go to a high school football game and not feel safe,” Cobaris said.
Channel 9 has asked Ocoee police whether additional security measures are planned for future football games, but has not yet received a response.
