Tenant at Cape Canaveral apartments say complex won't permanently fix mold issue

Tenants at the Oceanside Village apartments in Cape Canaveral claim that mold growth and other maintenance problems are about to force them out of their homes.

Some of the units have electricity issues where power only works in some of the rooms.

Resident Erin Brennan is still waiting for answers.

"My light bulbs all blew out at the same time in a big flash of light. Like, I almost got electrocuted. It was extremely scary,” she said.

Brennan had black mold form in her bathroom and had to call the Health Department to get her apartment complex to take action.

When maintenance workers came, she said they just patched over the mold.

"Now it can just grow again. It's not like it's eliminated. It's just covered now,” she said.

There is also a hole in the wall that Brennan said a maintenance man punched over a year ago and never came back to fix.

She said she has damaged cabinets from a leak upstairs and a light that looks like it might fall out of the ceiling at any minute.

Management called Brennan a liar, claiming she hasn't asked for their help in months.

She said that’s all she's been asking for, especially since her baby son has to live there, too.

Brennan is working on moving out of the complex.

Code Enforcement officials said it will take a week to send a list of the property’s history of complaints.

The Health Department said mold falls into a grey zone, with no agency specifically responsible for making sure it’s cleaned up.
