Thieves steal 26 computers from BCU campus

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police said they hope surveillance video will help catch the thieves who stole dozens of computers meant for students at Bethune Cookman University.

This video shows the thieves loading up 26 computers worth thousands of dollars from a storage unit at BCU.

Police said an SUV was used to steal the computers.

"Not only, uh, does it take away from the campus itself and they lose out on a lot of money, but it takes away from the students," said Det. Raymond Ousterman of the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Most of the video from the Daytona Beach campus on International Speedway Boulevard shows shadowy figures loading computers into the SUV.

"After a short period of time, you do see a male walk as if he's acting as a lookout," Ousterman said.

Police said they're not ruling out that it could be an inside job.

"That's always a possibility. We're not going to leave anything out, so we're not exactly sure yet," Ousterman said.

Investigators believe that only a handful of people who work for the university knew about the computers, but so far police have not named suspects.
