Three injured in crash involving Mears bus, semi-truck

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Three people were injured in a five-vehicle crash shut down parts of John Young Parkway at Central Florida Parkway.

The northbound lanes of South John Young Parkway at Central Florida Parkway were shut down most of Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are trying to figure out how two vehicles, including a Mears bus, collided with a semi-truck.

Troopers said it will be a complex investigation.

“Somebody obviously did something wrong. Driver error caused this this crash, we just have to figure out who and to what extent,” said Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the semi-truck was stopped when the crash happened.

Douglas Haney, who was driving the Mears bus, is in critical condition.

No other people were on the Mears bus during the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the semi-truck was heading west and about to turn north on John Young Parkway, while the Mears bus was northbound on John Young Parkway.

“The Mears bus was traveling northbound on John Young and we’re sorting where the other three vehicles came from,” Montes said.

Christian Der Gal, 19, was also involved in the crash. He remains in serious condition.

Andrew nelson, 32, who was driving a Dodge Durango, is also in serious condition from the crash.

The other drivers had minor or no injuries.

“If there are red-light cameras, we will be looking at that,” Montes said.
