Tim Davis Sr. denied bond in son's slaying

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — The family of former Orlando police officer Tim Davis Sr. lashed out at the media Friday after a judge refused to release him on bond.

The judge also refused to let him go to his son's funeral Saturday. Davis is accused of killing his son Timothy Davis Jr. last Sunday at their Apopka home after an argument broke out over who should have custody of Davis Jr.'s child.

The family was outspoken in support of this man while in court Friday, and reporters expected more of that attitude outside the courtroom.

Instead, they lashed out in violence. The Davis family recoiled in anger as they left the courtroom Friday afternoon.

The defense argued the son lashed out with such violence, it put his father in a wheelchair.

"Tim Jr. was the aggressor in the attack, and that in the attack, my client suffered the injuries that put him in the hospital," defense attorney Michael Lafay said.

Friends, family, even law enforcement took to the stand, explaining how loved and respected Davis Sr. was in the community, and that he should be home instead of in jail.

“I love my husband. His children love him. And we need him home," Tasha Davis said.

But the judge wasn't swayed by the officer's record or community status. He said this was premediated, meaning Davis Sr. had time to think before he grabbed a gun and shot his son.

The judge also denied the request for Davis to be furloughed so he could be at his son's funeral.

Davis Jr.'s viewing is Friday night, and his funeral is Saturday.

Davis Sr. has turned down requests for a jailhouse interview, and he is in protective custody in the jail because he was a law enforcement officer.
