Titusville City Hall missing cash, check utility payments

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Titusville’s City Hall is missing cash and check payments made to the city by utility customers, Channel 9 learned.

There are two investigations into the theft.

Some customers were warned to monitor their accounts.

“I stopped paying things by check because of fraud. I would be concerned,” said Tiffany Thompson-Kelly.

Titusville recently sent a notice out to utility customers letting them know that if they’ve made payments by check since Feb. 10 and haven’t seen those payments posted against their account, they should take steps to make sure their banking information wasn’t compromised.

The city also assured residents payments were credited to accounts and there would be no service interruptions.

“It’s disturbing and should be looked into. Hopefully a resolution will come of it and the person or persons responsible will have their day in court,” said utility customer Robert Jones.

Titusville police won’t say how much money is missing, but the city is conducting an administrative investigation to analyze its process and improve procedures.
